It’s our first official day of Distance Learning! I know we are all in a bit of uncharted territory with all that is going on, but the most important thing I want students and families to know is that we are all in this together and taking it a step at a time. Please don’t let yourself get overwhelmed. At the beginning of each school year the first thing we start with is routines and procedures. This week’s goal is to ease into distance learning and create your own home learning environment - think how you will add this time into your daily routine.
Since this is new to all of us, I am not sure which platforms are the best for sharing information and materials. I plan to use Remind messages to stay in contact with parents and that would also be a quick way for parents to get ahold of me. I will be available to answer any questions during our normal school day hours Monday - Friday. I will also try to have a new blog post on my class website each day to go over the day’s plan and share any new information. I will continue to share other websites and things as we go through the week but as I said before I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed.
This week’s assignments are a review - there shouldn’t be any new instruction. If you are unable to print the at-home assignments today don’t worry! I am looking into other ways to share the assignments with you. You can even do the work on extra paper you have at home. If you are able to start the lessons for this week, today we will be doing Day 1.
Websites that would be great to check out this week are Zearn, Epic, and Brain Pop Jr. These are all websites that your child should be somewhat familiar with. Zearn is a math website that can be differentiated for students’ levels - so if the current lesson seems too hard or too easy for your child, please let me know! Epic can be used for students to read books online. This is a great resource to read a variety of books especially right now with libraries being closed. The last website is Brain Pop Jr. This website has short videos to match many of our third grade skills. If there is a skill that is tricky for your child please use this website as a resource for a quick review video and even sometimes a game for those skills.
So this week’s goals: create a routine for at home learning, try to access/work on this week’s at-home lessons, check out the websites Zearn, Epic, and Brain PopJr. ( I will have links to these websites on my webpage under the tab "distance learning links" and will send out log-in information.) Below I have Day 1 of the at-home lessons and the writing pages (these you will need for all week).
Please don’t hesitate with any questions you may have!
